Protective Coatings Application: Pot LIfe and Induction time

Objective: To recognize the importance of pot life and induction periods when using two-component coatings.

The pot life is provided by the coating manufacturer and is the maximum time period that the mixed product can be used.

If the coating is applied after expiration of the pot life, there is a danger that the product will not perform correctly.

Coating manufacturers may also identify an induction time for certain products. The coating applicator must not begin applicaton until the mixed material sits undistrubed throughout the induction period. Induction times vary between products, however, are normally 15 - 30 minutes.
